ASHTABULA – The Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Lions continued their playoff run with a 50-30 win over the Harvey Red Raiders. NDCL won the Division II district semifinal on Monday, Feb. 27 at Lakeside.
The Lions got off to a hot start as they led 12-6 after one quarter. Lexi Hammer scored four points and four steals in the opening quarter. Summer Salem and Kate Shaughnessy each knocked down a three-pointer. Erin Brownlee also added a basket for NDCL. Mackenna Lilly scored three of the Red Raiders six points in the first quarter on a three-pointer. Jillian Hach added the other three points on a basket and a free throw.
Harvey was able to slow down NDCL a little in the second quarter as the Red Raiders outscored the Lions 10-8 to trail 20-16 going into halftime. Nevada Melton and Na'Tori Ducksworth each scored four points for Harvey in the second quarter. The Lions continued to do well from outside as Summer Salem and Kate Shaughnessy each hit their second three-pointer of the game. It would be the second of six three pointers on the night for Sloan.
The Lions upped their lead to ten points at 32-22 in the third quarter. Summer Salem knocked down a pair of three-pointers for NDCL. Maggie Rahill, Annie Carney and Lexi Hammer each chipped in a basket. Nevada Melton scored four of the Red Raiders six points in the third quarter. Nakayla Cruz scored the only other basket for Harvey.
The Lions ran away with the game in the fourth quarter as they won 50-30. Summer Salem scored eight more points, including two more three-pointers. Salem finished the game with 20 points for the Lions. Lexi Hammer also had a big final quarter for NDCL with six points as she finished in double digits with 12 points.
Jillian Hach scored six of the Red Raiders eight points in the final quarter. Hach finished with a team high 11 points. Nevada Melton finished with 8 points in the loss for Harvey.
With the win NDCL advanced to play Perry in the district championship game.
