JEFFERSON - Nominations are still being accepted for the Jefferson Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet, which will be held at the Jefferson Recreational Center, 11 E. Jefferson St., on Tuesday, April 11. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the banquet starting at 6 p.m.
The banquet was a topic of discussion during a Chamber meeting on Monday, March 6, at Pueblo Real.
President Patty Fisher asked for and received a motion to spend up to $4,000 on preparations for the banquet. Last year, expenses were about $3,700.
The Chamber is still seeking nominations for the Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, “Dream Big” Business of the Year, the Chuck Lewis Lifetime of Service Award and the Youth of the Year awards, which are presented at the banquet.
Criteria for the awards include:
—Citizen of the Year: Significant contributions to the community; inspirational role model to the community and/ or individuals within the community; lives and/or works in the Jefferson area; demonstrates civic pride and commitment to the bettering of the community; and demonstrates leadership.
—Business of the Year: 1-100 employees; must be in business for four or more years and is still in business; must be a Chamber member; contributes and promotes economic growth, stability and improvement of the Jefferson area; practices professionalism; and gives generously in time and resources the chamber and the surrounding Jefferson area.
—“Dream Big” Business of the Year: Non-manufacturing business; less than 20 employees; located in the Jefferson area; must be in business for two years and is still in business; locally owned and operated; contributes and promotes economic growth, stability and improvement of the Jefferson area; and practices professionalism.
—Chuck Lewis Lifetime of Service Award: Open to an individual/non-profit/ business; demonstrated significant contributions to the community for 10 or more years; lives and/or works(ed) in the Jefferson area; longtime business success; and strong community involvement.
—Youth of the Year: Awards a student ages 15 - 18; mentor to fellow peers; demonstrated significant contributions to the community; involvement in academic and extra curricular activity; and civic duty and/or community service that goes above and beyond most others.
Besides the awards, the banquet also will highlight new board members, membership benefits and new website additions.
Tickets for the Chamber Banquet cost $140 per table, which seats eight, or $25 per person. Past Citizens of the Year are $10.

People or businesses interested in sponsoring portions of the banquet or the awards may contact Fisher for the sponsorship levels. Over 150 Jefferson-area community businesses and professionals attend the banquet every year.
In other Chamber news, Fisher said the Chamber is working on a draft set of updated bylaws that will be sent out to members to review.
