ASHTABULA COUNTY - The seven visitors’ bureaus along Ohio’s north coast have partnered together to give away a seven-day, seven-night Lake Erie experience called Tour the Shore.
One lucky winner will receive overnight accommodations and tickets to area attractions at a new location along Lake Erie each day beginning June 1. Some meals are also included in the prize, but transportation is not.
“There is so much to do in the Lake Erie region,” said Stephanie Siegel, executive director at the Ashtabula County Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This promotion will help to make people aware of vacation options that they may not have considered. Lake Erie is the perfect backdrop for a getaway and has become so accessible with great food and so many things to do.”
Sign-ups for the chance to win the Tour the Shore experience began March 1. To sign up, visit www.tourtheshore.net. The winner will be drawn on May 1.
Siegel said the idea for Tour the Shore came about as she was looking at the bureau’s promotional list and considered how she could get Ashtabula County’s name in front of the travelers in the Shores and Islands area.
So she called up the visitors bureaus along Lake Erie and they came up with the Tour the Shore, which will allow the winner to tour the counties along Lake Erie, beginning in Ashtabula County, and stay overnight in each county.
The tour begins in Ashtabula County with a tour of several wineries and a night at the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake. On day two, head west to Lake County for a day at the Holden Arboretum and night at the baseball game with fireworks, followed by a night downtown on day three with Destination Cleveland and a visit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
Zip line in Lorain on day four. On day five, a lucky winner will hop on the ferry to Put-in-Bay where a cart will be waiting for the winner to explore the island. On day six, enjoy a historic stop in Sandusky County, home to 19th President Rutherford B. Hayes.
Sleep well before the finale on day seven in Toledo at the zoo and Maumee Bay Resort with their many amenities and activities.
Participating destination marketing organizations include: the Ashtabula County Convention & Visitors Bureau; Lake County Visitors Bureau; Destination Cleveland; Visit Lorain; the Sandusky County Convention & Visitors Bureau; Lake Erie Shores & Islands; and Destination Toledo.
