Lakers win Sectionals
BEACHWOOD - The Pymatuning Valley Lakers won the Division III sectional wrestling tournament with 174 points. Newbury finished second with 166 points. Grand Valley finished third with 149 points and St. John finished fourth with 118 points.
The Lakers had seven wrestlers in the championship match. Noah Campbell won for the Lakers at 126lbs. Gaige Willis also took home first place for PV at 195lbs. Pymatuning Valley had five wrestlers finish in second place starting with Jake Edelman at 106lbs. William Campbell finished in second at 113lbs, Cameron Yeary finished second at 138lbs, Leonard Udell finished second at 220lbs and Caleb Bean finished second at 285lbs. In total the Lakers will send nine wrestlers to districts.
Grand Valley and St. John also did well in the championship matches. The Heralds won three individual championships. Nick Burgard won at 138lbs, Jacob Lagoa won at 152lbs and David Cumberledge won at 160lbs. Christian Blank finished in second place for St. John at 170lbs. Austin Mathis won the heavy weight title for the Mustangs. Bradley Turner took home second place for Grand Valley at 195lbs.
The Mustangs were active in the third and fourth place matches. Mathew Sexton won at 126lbs to take third place for the Mustangs. Gavin Meeker also finished third for the Mustangs with a win at 132lbs. Nathan Rasmussen won his final match at 152lbs to capture a third place finish as well. Taking home fourth place for the Mustangs was Clayton Takacs at 160lbs. Justin Shahan (113lbs), Jacob Taylor (120) and Logan Newell (170) all finished sixth for Grand Valley.
The Lakers advanced two more wrestles to districts as Jesse Young won his match at 120lbs to take third place. Chad Brown finished in fourth place at 152lbs.
Derrick Elrod, of St. John, won his final match at 285lbs to take home third place. Joe Roskovics, of St. John, finished sixth for the Heralds at 195lbs.
