KIRTLAND – For 10 years, The Gallery at Lakeland spring exhibition schedule has included a special show dedicated to art of women.
Always part of the Women’s History Month, the show is the brain child of Mary Urbas, gallery coordinator at Lakeland and the curator of this exhibition. The show, from “WOMAN X … Created by women, of women and about women” features an extensive display of pieces, representing multiple art forms that were submitted by artists from all over the country.
The show runs from Feb. 26 through March 31, with an artist reception and awards ceremony slated for Sunday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m. in the Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center.
The gallery is located on the first floor of D-Building on Lakeland’s main campus at 7700 Clocktower Dr., Kirtland.
All shows are free and open to the public.
In addition, Lakeland’s Women’s Center is hosting their annual Women of Achievement Awards event before the gallery reception. The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. in the Rodehorst Performing Arts Center and is free and open to the public.
As a further celebration of women artists, Urbas has coordinated the creation of a gallery tour directory that lists the regional galleries and studios that are also hosting events dedicated to women. Some of the venues are donating a portion of their sales to women’s charities or causes. The listing, with 86 galleries and over 100 artists participating, can be found on Lakeland’s gallery website at lakelandcc.edu/gallery.
Gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
