ASHTABULA COUNTY - An Ashtabula County Young Democrats group is in the process of being formed.
Cameron Hartley has spearheaded the formation of this group with the goal toward connecting young Democrats and electing Democratic candidates.
“The idea behind starting this organization was to allow like-minded young Democrats to come together to help our party’s candidates in the upcoming elections. We are in the process of chartering with the Ohio Young Democrats and we have the approval of the Executive Committee of the county Democrat Party,” Hartley said.
Although Hartley is filling the role as acting president for now, he hopes, by virtue of a majority vote from the members, that he will be able to lead the organization as the president. The group will be led by an Executive Board voted in by the members of the organization.
“We hope to accomplish many things. One of our main goals is to develop young minds in the community; regardless of one party or the other, I wanted to revive the organization. We want to remind the community that the Democratic Party is still the party of the people,” Hartley said.
As the acting president, Hartley will be attending the Ohio Young Democrats annual winter conference in Youngstown along with the acting vice president.
With the group still in its infancy stage, Hartley welcomes interested people to contact him through the Ashtabula County Young Democrats Facebook page. The group is open to people of voting age through age 40.
The group anticipates holding its first meeting in March.
“If any individuals have any beliefs that fall in line with the Democratic Party, then please like us on Facebook, and if any individual would like to join, message us there for details,” Hartley said.
