Open the Door to a Magical Tour;Madison Garden Club announces homes on 2017 tour
MADISON - The Madison Garden Club held a “meet and greet” April 10 to introduce the homeowners whose properties will be on the 2017 garden tour named, “Open the Door to a Magical Tour” happening June 25.
“We choose the participating properties at the end of summer. This gives the gardeners a whole season to get ready for the tour,” said Rosanne Lindsay, co-chair for this year’s event.
All of the properties featured are in Madison. Included are an 1890’s farmstead and a new bed and breakfast called “The Pearl,” owned by Daniel and Sandra Wiiki.
Dottie Ashton, current garden club president and her husband, Frank, have lived in and loved their farmhouse for 40 years. Frank has designed the gardens and finds inspiration for his oil paintings there.
They want to show visitors their peaceful part of the world they call “Innisfree.”
Richard and Johanna Swallow have lived in Madison all their lives and raised three sons there.
“It’s his project, and I do the work,” Johanna quipped with a “how does this happen?” attitude.
Richard has documented their gardens over the years in a photo book to be shared.
Patty and Fritz Page had an unexpected visitor to their living room recently - a turkey vulture took a wrong turn into the front window. Despite this mishap, they are ready for the tour and ready to tell the story. Their remodeled ‘60’s ranch home is surrounded with “tried and true” perennials and filled with family heirlooms.
Denise and Rob Hudson own a 14-acre farmstead dating to the Victorian era. Rob grew up in Madison just a few doors down from his current home on Dayton Road. Their property has a barn, animals, and a scenic lily pond for visitors to enjoy.
The 1936 colonial style home of Roy and Cindy Anderson sits on Lake Road West with a beautiful Lake Erie view. The gardens feature low-maintenance plants from local nurseries.
Martin and Rosa Dominquez have owned their home for nine years and have landscaped the property themselves. They are owners of a landscape business.
The Madison Garden Club thanked two local businesses for their donations over the years: Raymond Builders Supply, Inc. of Geneva has supplied stone for the artistic garden markers engraved by Belding Monument Co. in Madison and given to each participating homeowner on the garden tour.
